Dr Jean Callaghan is available to give individual lectures or courses of lectures on a range of musical and vocal topics, including:

  • vocal technique for singers in all classical genres and styles and in music theatre
  • building repertoire (classical and music theatre)
  • the singer’s text: the verbal and musical text and how to approach the performance of that text — for singers and actors
  • audition preparation
  • vocal pedagogy (including body alignment and breath management; phonation; registration, range and voice classification; resonance and articulation; teaching and learning)
  • research methodology for postgraduate students
  • dealing with performance anxiety
  • the adolescent voice
  • the development of opera
  • German Lieder

The research Jean has put into the singing voice and how to teach it was exemplified in the content of this session. I was impressed with, and amazed by, her depth of knowledge on the subject of the teaching of singing. There is a commonsense component to what Jean said, as well as some points which a few may have found revolutionary.
